Buying

Van Spengen Auction House offers you the unique opportunity to purchase exceptional works of art and high quality antiques through our carefully curated auctions.

The diverse range of auction offerings can be found in our Online Catalogue. Here all lots are described with lot number, auction estimates and provided with detailed photos.

Viewing days will be held prior to the auction. All lots offered will be on display then and can be examined for condition and any defects. We advise you to visit the viewing days to convince yourself of the condition of the lot. If you do not have the opportunity to visit the viewing days, you can send us an e-mail requesting us to prepare a condition report for you. Discover our wide variety of lots during the next viewing days and experience the excitement of bidding.

Our team is ready to help you in every step of the buying process.

Registration and bidding

Before you can bid in any of our Timed-Online auctions, you must first register online. After registration, you can bid using your own account. All our auctions are Timed-Online auctions and are conducted entirely via the Internet. The auction process and the entire bidding process are under the independent supervision of the bailiff office Deurwaarder.com.

The auction begins as soon as the catalog is online and ends at a predetermined time. With your own account, you can leave bids throughout the auction period.

Automatic bidding

Bids are treated as an automatic bid a so-called ‘auto’ bid. This means that you specify a maximum amount and the auction system bids for you in increments of €10 up to the maximum you specify, or as much lower as possible.

Your maximum bid is strictly personal and not viewable by the auction house. If your bid is outbid, you will be notified by email up to half an hour before the closing of that lot.

Due to the speed of the bidding process in the last half hour before the closing of the lot in question, emails will no longer be sent to indicate that you have been outbid. We recommend tracking your bids by staying logged in.

If someone bids in the last 3 minutes, the auction for that lot is extended to 3 minutes, giving the other bidder enough time to make a new bid.

All bids are binding and cannot be withdrawn.

Costs

Auction house Van Spengen charges a premium (buyers’ commission) of 29% on top of the hammer price and €0.50 number fee per purchased lot. In certain cases, the resale right may also apply. When the resale right applies it will be specifically mentioned in the catalog with the text:- on this lot the resale right applies-. There is no VAT, the margin scheme applies.

Terms

All auctions organized by Veilinghuis Van Spengen are subject to the general terms and conditions.
